Job Description:
Armed Security Guard
Classification:
Non-Exempt Hourly Employee

****FULL TIME AND PART TIME POSITIONS (TEMPORARY TO PERMANENT)****

Reports to:
Qualified Manager or designated Supervisor

Summary
This position is responsible for the business continuity and overall protection of an assigned client premises. The key elements to secure and protect (but is not limited to) client’s employees, customers, vendors and overall daily security related operations while maintaining a high visibility presence. The Armed Security guard will aid in the prevention of any illegal activities on the premises and disruptions to the business. This includes any type of inappropriate/unsafe actions on a given assignment through observance, detection, deterrence through de-escalation and daily reporting.

PAY BASED ON EXPERIENCE
90 DAY PROBATIONARY PERIOD
AM & PM SHIFTS AVAILABLE (NO GRAVEYARD)
MUST BE WILLING TO WORK NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS AS REQUIRED
YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN DUTY GEAR (I.E Pistol, Holster with Level II retention or better, Ballistic Vest/Bulletproof Vest Level III or better, duty belt, handcuffs, pepper spray and all applicable permits)



Essential Functions:
Maintains security and safety of people and property in assigned area on a given property by patrolling areas on foot and enforcing STATE/COUNTY/CITY/BUSINESS laws and regulations. Patrols premise to prevent and detect signs of intrusion, ensuring security of doors, windows, and gates. Answers alarms and investigate disturbances and calls for assistance from client management and staff. Monitors and authorizes (as needed) entrance of client staff, customers, vendors, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft (internal and external) and maintain security of premises (people and property). Calls police or fire department in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons. Monitors and inspects security systems and equipment to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering. Adheres to all other policies and rules applicable to the type of business being conducted at the post.

Competencies:
Key performance indicators to be successful in this position include excellent Customer Service and professional communication skills, De-escalation and Problem Solving. A proficient Armed Guard solves problems with effective solutions while minimizing any disruption to the business. The officer will display excellent Time Management skills by effectively and efficiently managing and prioritizing tasks. An experienced Officer will practice careful and professional character analysis and is a good judge of a potentially dangerous person/situation. Composure is also a critical skill. The officer must be able to handle stressful situations as they arise and de-escalate and/or address those situations with professionalism at all times. The officer must act within all Bureau of Security and Information Services regulations.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position may have some supervisory responsibilities. When it comes to the safety and security of the premises the Armed Guard may need to be ready to provide professional direction or instruction to avoid a potentially dangerous situation from escalating.

Work Environment:
This position will work indoors and outdoors year-round.

The employee is required to be able to walk, run, sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items weighing 60 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills, the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures and be able to write daily reports as required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This position may be a full-time or part-time position and work hours scheduling will be determined by management based on the needs of the company and the client served. Schedules are established bi-weekly (coincides with a bi-weekly pay period) by the Qualified Manger. Schedules may vary from time to time based on the needs of the client. Holidays may be required. This position may have a rotating shift and the Guard must be able to work some nights and weekends as needed.
Travel:
No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior Military and/or College Degree a plus.
3-5 years in a customer service role preferred.
Prior security industry experience also preferred but not required.
State Permits:
The Armed Guard is responsible for keeping ALL required STATE/COUNTY/CITY permits active and in good standing and must have a state issued Guard Card and exposed firearms license on their person at all times during duty.
