Hacker in Residence - software / qa / dba / etc - job employment

City: San francisco bay area
Date: 16 Sep 2020
Category: Software / QA / DBA

Seeking a hacker-in-residence to join me in various business pursuits, all technical (software or hardware / software) in nature. This role includes a stipend and substantial equity positions in at least one newly operating business (10%+ in addition to co-founder status), but no living wage salary for the foreseeable future. This might be ideal for an undergrad or grad student with significant web or mobile app development experience but someone who requires a flexible schedule (this would be 20-30 hours a week of commitment).

A bit more about myself and the endeavors -- I am a 33 year old entrepreneur living in Oakland. I have worked at 5 start-ups, co-founding two (one current Series C and one acquired), functioning in product management, marketing, and sales capacities. I am no longer enthusiastic about pursuing VC funding and would prefer to bootstrap businesses with aims at short-term profitability. I am currently working on a couple of business projects including a project to revitalize local journalism and a reimagining of trail cameras.

As long as COVID stays as it is I imagine this will be mostly a remote position, but I have a sizable garage built out in Oakland as an office / hacker cave and it’s ready for hacking. Delicious food and beverage provided on in-office days of course.

If interested please reply with a CV and a short blurb on a recent non-school-related project you’ve worked on of your choosing.

The only requirements:
- You are an experienced programmer -- specifically you are comfortable doing app architecture and full-stack development on technologies of your own choosing
- You are at least somewhat personable and enjoy discussion and debate
- You have a positive outlook on life and don’t require external motivation and encouragement to focus and work hard (at least on most days, everyone has off days)
- Nice to have: interest and experience in hardware / software products
