Founded in 2004, Europa Editions is one of the leading publishers of international fiction in the United States and has gained a worldwide reputation publishing literary fiction by the likes of Elena Ferrante and Jane Gardam. The intern would work with publisher Kent Carroll (formerly editor-in-chief at Grove Press and founder-publisher of Carroll & Graf). Every intern who has completed the program and wishes to pursue a career in publishing has found a full-time position.

We are currently seeking an intern to work approximately 20 hours per week for a six-month term. The internship will be remote until at least September. Upon completion of the internship, interns will be prepared for entry-level positions at literary agencies and in the editorial, publicity, sales or marketing departments of publishers. Intern duties include but are not limited to:

• Administrative tasks (answering phones, logging manuscript submissions, filing book reviews, making travel arrangements, maintaining Kent Carroll’s calendar, handling regular correspondence, compiling monthly expense reports, maintaining accurate mailing lists);

• Publicity efforts (assisting with pitch letters, helping as needed to coordinate author tours and readings, tracking and recording review attention, mailing books and galleys, and communicating with editors, authors, and book reviewers regarding coverage of Europa books in various publications);

• Editorial work (reading manuscript submissions, writing readers’ reports, writing and editing catalog and book jacket copy, acquisition of manuscripts, editing).

Length of Internship: Six months, with some flexibility to extend or shorten.

Qualifications:

• College graduate (BA) with previous office experience
• A serious commitment to pursuing a career in book publishing
• A current resident in the New York City metropolitan area preferred
• A demonstrated interest in and familiarity with quality fiction
