This position is for a PERMANENT part-time copy editor. It typically involves between 2 hours - 6 hours per week and can be done at any time of the day or night.
You must live in the greater NYC area. ALL of the Boroughs qualify as acceptable. Associated New Jersey locales such as Jersey City, Hoboken, and Edgewater ALSO qualify but nothing outside of 60 minute MASS TRANSIT commute to Midtown is eligible. In doubt? Check Google maps and use Times Square as a destination (using MASS TRANSIT as the travel option). Please indicate the city you reside in within your cover letter or resume for us to consider you. You will be filling-out a federal W-4 form with us if we hire you as an employee. That form needs to state your full-time, permanent address and it must align with this paragraph. We check state IDâ€™s and it must match your I-9 and W-4. Please remember to send all of your contact information with your resume.
PLEASE NOTE: While we all work remotely (as employees - NOT 1099's), we meet (in-person) monthly to discuss projects.
You MUST have solid COPY-EDITING experience. We prefer copy editors who understand AP/Chicago style guidelines. That said, we are interested in solid NON-FICTION copy editing experience. This means that you have the ability to rewrite copy without losing the writer's voice. We CAREFULLY TEST your grammar during the interview process! You must also display the ability to create style sheets, lead writers, manage workflow, etc. Being an editor sounds romantic but like all jobs, itâ€™s serious work. ONLY GRAMMAR SNOBS SHOULD APPLY for this postion.
You must be at least 21 years of age.
Strong fact-checking skills are a must. You need to show an ability to rewrite/reword content as needed. If your fact-checking is extremely weak, then this is not a match.
Please - pretty please. . . Have an EXTREMELY SOLID sense of proper grammar. Once again - WE ISSUE NUMEROUS TESTS. Both AP *and* Chicago styles!

Our STARTING compensation ranges from $20 - $24 per hour (starting) and is dependent on experience. We do reviews every 90 days with the potential for financial increases every 3 months. If you have limited online professional copy EDITING experience, please donâ€™t expect peak starting rate. This is a PERMANENT part-time position â€“ please do not apply if you are not looking for a permanent slot.
