We help tenants forced out of rent-controlled apartments get a fresh start. While we help tenants of all backgrounds, we especially enjoy working with immigrants, single mothers, blue-collar workers, and families with young children. We are seeking a Client Relations Manager (preferably Spanish-speaking) to oversee the inbound sales (i.e., no cold-calling) of legal services to grow our team.
Founded in January 2016, our firm grew 100% between 2016 and 2017 and approximately 75% again in 2018 over 2017. We are currently tracking over 80% growth again in 2019 over 2018. Our team currently consists of seventeen individuals, including seven full-time employees, one part-time employee, and nine independent contractors. We are committed to the work we do for our clients, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously and really value professional development and team building. Here is our mission statement:
We are a tenant rights law firm whose mission is to pursue justice for California renters who have been harassed, discriminated against, or illegally evicted. We are committed to social justice and to the ideal that all members of our community, regardless of financial resources, are entitled to legal representation. While our clients include renters from all backgrounds, we are especially dedicated to the most vulnerable renters in our community—namely, the indigent, the elderly, immigrants, blue-collar workers, and individuals with disabilities. We believe in doing well by doing good, understand the high demand for tenant rights attorneys in California, and therefore aim to grow as rapidly as possible to allow us to serve more California renters. We treat our clients with dignity and respect, and value the personal and professional development of everyone in our organization. Our core values include zealous advocacy, constant client communication, professionalism and civility among lawyers, respect for work-life balance, and technological innovation. We are an equal opportunity employer.
The Client Relations Manager will oversee a team of one or two intake specialists and will conduct thirty-minute sales calls with prospective new clients (“PNCsâ€). These PNCs contact our firm and are prescreened an intake specialist who collects basic information and determines whether the PNC is a candidate for the firm’s services.
The Client Relations Manager is not required or expected to make cold calls. The Client Relations Manager will:
• Collect more in-depth information about the PNCs and the matters for which they are seeking the firm’s help.
• Follow firm prescribed guidelines on how to communicate with PNCs in the most effective manner.
• Assure the PNCs that the firm’s attorneys and staff will be able to help them.
• Show compassion for their troubles.
• Help PNCs understand the difference between working and not working with the firm.
In accordance with the ethical rules governing lawyers, the Client Relations Manager will not provide legal advice or enter into a legal services agreement with a PNC. Rather, the Client Relations Manager will prepare PNCs for hiring the firm with all legal services agreements approved and signed by a licensed California attorney.
The selected candidate must be able to keep detailed records about the number of PNCs who contact the firm, the number of PNCs who come in for initial consultations, and the number who ultimately engage the firm.
The Client Relations Manager will also be responsible for staying in contact with PNCs who do not hire the firm after their initial consultation to keep the door open for them to hire the firm when they are ready.
PNCs who do hire the firm will usually receive two follow up calls from the Client Relations Manager, to check in on their satisfaction and progress with their legal matter. This is for quality assurance.
The Client Relations Manager must be confident, articulate, diplomatic, yet willing to speak frankly to the PNC when needed with high emotional intelligence. The Client Relations Manager must be able to bring PNCs to the point of signing a legal services agreement with the firm.
The Client Relations Manager must be self-motivated and self-directed to achieve his or her professional goals as well as the firm’s goals.
The Client Relations Manager should be proficient with the Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams. Experience with Clio, Clio Grow (formerly Lexicata), Adobe Acrobat Pro, Dropbox, and Zoom.us are preferred but not required.
Because the position will be remote, the Client Relations Manager must have a high comfort level with technology; an Internet connection and professional background for videoconferencing; and an interest in growing with the firm.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate has sold high-end products like jewelry, cars, real estate, and luxury brand apparel or luxury fashion accessories. The Client Relations Manager should have education and/or work experience that is the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree.
Real life experience and a few “battle scars†providing empathy and understanding are assets. Experience overcoming a major obstacle in life and making an important change in your life so you know at your core that others can do it too, is a plus.
Skills and experience are required, appreciated, and valued, but personality, character, intelligence, and integrity will be paramount considerations. High-maintenance, humorless, self-entitled, or self-important individuals will not succeed in this position and need not apply.
This position is a more than a job. For the right candidate, it’s a career. Salary is commensurate with skill and experience. The position is full-time, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. We offer full-time employees up to eighty hours of paid time off annually as well as health, dental, and vision benefits for employees and their families after ninety days of full-time employment with the firm.
