BOOK PUBLISHER seeks staff writer--local history books--flat rate pay - writing / editing / translation - job employment

HPN Books - The Historical Publishing Network

Seeking a local staff writer / contributing writer for several San Diego area book projects. We publish hardcover coffee table style books for cities and historical societies with a proven business model that actually earns the organizations we partner with fundraising dollars while publishing them a beautiful hardcover book.

The contributing writers will be noted on the title page of the book--which means you'll be a published author! Our hardcover books are available at Barne's & Noble, Amazon, as well as locally through the organization we publish for. We also release them as free ebooks.

The stories you'll be writing are about the local families, organizations, and businesses that make up the community in which we are publishing books about. Each writing assignment is from 1 to 6 pages in the book and are paid a flat rate of $85 per page. You'll be responsible for interviewing the clients (who sponsor the pages in the book) and writing from 250-325 words per page according to their guidelines. Since you must also interview the client, scheduling of appointments by phone--tracking down the clients--are a big part of the job. If you're good at this, up to 10 pages of work per week or more are possible. The job is remote, work from home (but we prefer you be local to the San Diego region, exceptions sometimes given), independent contractor, paid flat rate by the written page. Clients must approve your work. You'll need a phone and a computer plus MS Word and Google Drive capabilities.

Demonstrate you are a capable and creative writer by submitting a cover sheet with C.V./Resume. The top qualities we seek are not only proficiency in writing, but effective and persistent phone scheduling abilities. You must be good at appointment setting as well as being a good writer or the book will never meet our time deadlines. You will not be doing any sales, our sales reps do the sales. You'll simply be scheduling appointments with the clients and writing their stories and then correcting the drafts until the client approves the article.

Please respond to this email and do not contact the headquarters office, as I am hiring for local San Diego positions only. If you'd like to work in another region--we are national company--please send me your information directly (by responding to this ad) and I will forward it to the appropriate regional manager. We are not currently seeking any more writers in the other markets, but we ARE also seeking sales reps in several other areas (including San Diego), so please reach out to me!

If you would like to do sales and writing, that is also a possibility and earns far more than the flat rate per page for writing, but sales is not necessary for this job. Training for the phone work will be provided but you must have an outgoing personality, be a go-getter and be a proficient writer. Journalists--news writers who enjoy going out to get the story--are perfect.

Visit our website at Contact me for sample articles to show you what you'll be writing. Send me your cover letter and resume. Position will be filled as soon as possible.
