The internship, a "virtual literary assistantship," involves a full range of assistance in the publishing and entertainment businesses for Dr. Kenneth Atchity's several companies: Storymerchant.com (including Story MerchantBooks.com) -- TheWritersLifeline.com -- Atchity Productions, LLC -- Atchity Brothers Entertainment, LLC.

Specifically, interns will primarily perform reading, which includes providing "coverage" of screenplays and novels under consideration for representation and/or production by our companies. There will also be opportunities to do proposal research, film research and internet implementation duties on specific literary publishing and film/television projects and on the Story Merchant publishing slate.
The work can be done entirely by internet and telephone (interns have been in France, Italy, England, and Hong Kong), so if you don't live in the Los Angeles area, please still feel free to apply. Those who apply who do live local, however, may be asked to come into the office several times a week for face-to-face work. If you schedule allows for office time, please be sure say so in your application email.
Those with experience in the field or who have studied film and/or literature in school will be considered for the internship above those with little to no experience. The duration of the internship is six months so that we have ample opportunity to determine the intern's strengths and abilities and to further educate them in the commercial literary and film industry fields. This internship may lead to part-time employment and/or referral to other companies for full-time employment.
Punctuality, energy, drive, responsibility, and entrepreneurialism are essentials. Intern must be familiar with Word, MS Excel, Final Draft, and social networking; must commit to completing at least one coverage minimum every ten days, and must commit to a minimum of six months of interning, though longer internships, if for academic credit or career coaching opportunities, are particularly welcome. If the intern cannot adhere to the coverage minimum, they will be promptly dropped from the program.
Dr. Atchity is a Yale alumnus (Ph.D., comparative literature), producer of 30 films, author of numerous books, editor, writing coach, and former professor of comparative literature and communications who has worked in the world of commercial storytelling for nearly forty years. He currently has dozens of projects in development with nearly every publisher, studio, and production company, and is publisher of Story Merchant Books, "an incubator of new voices," which has launched over 250 books in the past five years.
Available immediately. Upon application, please submit a resume, two references, and make known your reading preferences (scripts or manuscripts), although it is expected that the intern will be willing to read and cover both during the internship. Applicants being considered will be asked to do a sample coverage. In subject line of application email please write: Application for Literary Internship.
