Primary Focus (Next 2 Years)

The Sr. Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing and building bleeding-edge datacenter environments that literally break through the traditional boundaries of legacy datacenter designs. The Sr. Systems Engineer will achieve this by creating a truly a borderless datacenter, spanning both physical and cloud infrastructures on a global scale. The Sr. Systems Engineer will focus on designing automated infrastructure platforms leveraging bleeding-edge technologies in the practice areas of virtualization, software defined networking (SDN), private and public clouds, software defined security (SDS), as well as automation and orchestration. With access to the most trusted and highly regarded cyber security training resources in the world, the Sr. Systems Engineer will also interact with leading cyber security experts to design and deploy infrastructure platforms that enable the development and delivery of world-class cyber security training products and solutions.

General Role Summary

The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for the deployment, administration, monitoring, analysis, and support of systems. The environments may include on premise VMware and system datacenter needs as well as cloud infrastructure such as vRealize Operations and Automation, Amazon Web Services (AWS). These services must run on 24x7 mission critical, high-availability systems with data replication and disaster recovery across multiple regions. The Senior Systems Engineer will conduct system support activities such as backup deployment scripts and strategies, maintaining and automating monitoring systems, architecture and capacity planning. The Senior Systems Engineer will also directly support IT teams in incident and problem resolution for Tier 2 and 3 incidents and problems.


Essential Skills / Requirements
  • 7 years+ of experience in planning and implementing enterprise class systems within the practice areas of datacenter and cloud, supporting global environments for software development focused teams
  • Advanced experience with RedHat Enterprise Linux & Unix (RHEL, CentOS, BSD, etc.)
  • Advanced experience with Linux configuration management tools like Puppet (preferred) or Chef
  • Ability to develop software tools or scripts to automate the monitoring and management of systems, infrastructure, and data collection tasks using common languages such as shell scripting, BASH, RUBY, PHP, Python, PowerShell, Perl, SQL, GoLang, YAML, etc.
  • Strong experience using syslog aggregation tools such as ELK, Splunk, etc. for deep dive analysis and correlative reporting
  • Advanced proficiency with LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
  • Advanced experience administering Windows Server 2008 and later deployments
  • Advanced experience administering, designing, and supporting VMware vRealize, NSX-V, NSX-T, (NSXaaS a Plus)
  • Advanced experience administering, designing, and supporting Cisco Nexus and UCS
  • Advanced experience administering NetApp ONTAP
  • Advanced experience with PowerCLI for automating datacenter infrastructures
  • Strong understanding of SDDC concepts with a focus on streamlining datacenter operations
  • Strong understanding of API driven architectures and DevOps methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Infrastructures and Systems
  • Strong knowledge of latest versions of IIS and MSSQL systems
  • Maintain virtual and physical data center infrastructure; install/configure/monitor operating systems, deploy applications and AMIs/VMs, troubleshoot and repair hardware and retire end of life equipment.
  • Experience with a broad area of AWS capabilities such as EC2, S3, Cloud Watch, Cloud Front, ELB, IAM, etc.
  • Strong architectural documentation skills for both system design and post-mortem deep dive analysis
  • Analyze and resolve Tier 3-4 problems quickly involving interaction between applications, OS, storage, and networking by working with software developers, QA, and vendors and support production applications, servers, and networks by responding to incidents, restoring service as quickly as possible, and investigating root causes for outages and maintaining incident logs.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences
Desired Skills / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Computer Science, engineering, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of systems and network security principles, and general systems administration best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of firewalls, load balancers, switches, and network design.
  • Adaptive to leadership styles that promote collaboration, teamwork, and innovation.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, ever changing and matrixed environment.
  • Flexibility to work off-hours to accommodate scheduled changes.
  • Ability to be on call 24/7 on a weekly rotation.
  • Support events and conferences including travel as needed
  • VMWare VCP preferred
  • Linux certification preferred
  • GIAC certification preferred
  • CCIE Datacenter certification preferred
  • Experience collaborating with 3rd party vendors to install complex application environments
  • Experience with a variety of third party application and infrastructure performance monitoring
